Cause of Defects
- The incorrect type of bedding mortar for the tile may develop cracks which lead to cracking of the tile surface.
- Improper mixing of the mortar may lead to developing shrinkage cracks, developing stress on tile surfaces.
- Tiles might have been laid on the substrate before it has been completely cured. Excessive drying shrinkage causes tensile stresses to build up in the bedding layer and results in the cracking of tile and render.
- Tile cracks may be due to the differential movements of the building structure and lack of proper movement joints.
- The use of defective tiles could later develop crazing on its surfaces with temperature changes on the surface.
