Introduction
Diagonal Crack/ Crack due to Substrate Movement
Type of Building: Commercial Building
A diagonal crack is found on the tiled façade. The cracklines were found to have propagated into the render substrates. Such cracks are most likely due to differential settlement, movements and the like. It is also noted that there is a tendency for the crack to propagate along the tile joints rather than across the tiles. This is because the materials used for the tile joints are generally weaker than the ceramic tiles.
