Cause of Defects
- Lack of provision or failure of waterproofing membrane around the pipe may lead the water leakage through structural floor.
- Aging of waterproofing membrane could lead to failure of water-tightness of the discontinuity at the penetration. Generally, durability of waterproofing membrane is 10 – 15 years.
- Porous infill of the cold joint at the penetration attributed to hacking of concrete slab and/or leaving large openings during casting could be another factor (Figure 1).
