Protimeter / Moisture Meter

A moisture meter is a device designed to measure the moisture content of building materials such as roofing, insulation, drywall, plaster, wood, tile, and fibreglass.

The common types of moisture meter are:

With pins — Use small probes that penetrate the material to be tested. It measures the amount of moisture on a material by its electrical conductivity. This is generally regarded as a more repeatable and
accurate type of moisture measurement than the “search mode” (without pins).

Without pins — Low-frequency signals (electromagnetic waves) are transmitted
into the material being tested to measure the change in impedance
caused by the presence of moisture. The meter detects changes in the characteristics
of the returned emissions, relates these with the calibrated data,
and interprets the results (i.e., the amount of moisture content).
