Water Leak Detector
Leak detection is usually conducted using acoustical equipment that detect the sound or vibration induced by water as it escapes from pipes under pressure. The acoustical equipment usually consist of listening devices such listening rods, aquaphones or sonoscopes and geophones or ground microphones. The listening devices are used to detect sounds indicating a leak around the suspected location along a pipe.
Commercial leak detectors come with microprocessors that provide built-in analysis and correlation. Leak signals come in the form of either sound or vibration at two points that bracket a suspected leak are detected. The position of the leak is determined using the built-in correlator based on the time shift between the leak signals calculated using the crosscorrelation method. The position of the leak is displayed on the screen of the detector.
The equipment allows the noises to be heard directly from the pipe as well as on the ground. The noise level is displayed on the equipment’s screen in graphical form, as well as numerically. The unit identifies the frequency of the audio collected, which is then transmitted into the headset— this process is an intrinsic part of the whole system. The headphones are equipped with noise-isolating features that allow the user to acquire the best audio possible and to pinpoint the water leak location.
As the microphone/sensor is placed over the ground or pipe, the control board detects and interprets the sound created by the water leak frequency. The result is then displayed on the LCD screen, giving users accurate data to help them decide on the best course of action. The sound of the water leak can be listened to using the included noise-cancelling headphones. Ideal for both leak surveying and pinpointing, the AquaTrac has a 3-point ground plate for pinpointing leaks on streets and concrete
slabs and a magnet base or contact rod for surveying leaks in hydrants, meters or valves. It has three predetermined filters (low, medium, high) designed to help beginners learn the ropes before moving on to customising frequency filters. Users can choose infinite combinations for the frequency filters by using the buttons on the unit’s control panel.
The AquaTrac is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery that provides up to 20 hours of continuous use. It comes with a hard, IP68-certified ABS carrying case that keeps it protected during transit or storage. Convenient and reliable, the AquaTrac maintains its quality for years without the need for recalibration.
