Cause of Defects
- Porous concrete that may be attributed by inferior workmanship, causes moisture retention in the slab as low quality and permeable concrete failed to act as a water barrier. Together with poor waterproofing membrane, water seep through the slab.
- Poor design and failure due to aging of waterproofing at shower area may lead to the failure of watertightness of the brick wall at the shower area and discontinuities. Generally the durability of waterproofing is 10 – 15 years.
- Due to the lack of ventilation, complete drying of the floor is difficult with heavy usage and hence constant wetting allows water to remain in the pores forming patches of water stains.
