This is a case where the failure mode is within the screed. Tiles installed using adhesion method may de-bond from the substrate when the imposed stresses exceed that of its bond strength. The anatomy of a tiling system by adhesion method is shown below:
The de-bonding may occur between or within any of the interfaces, between elements or within an element, or a combination of the above. Examination of the failure mode is hence important for devising the optimum remedial action.
