  • Description of defect

Faulty in wiring of the lighting where it can be because of improper wiring, loose and corroded wire. Rooms with insufficient luminance will interfere maintenance and inspection works by the personnel, where it is crucial for them to be able to detect signs of defects in elevator components. As most of the inspection will be done after working hours, sufficient lighting is important.

  • Diagnostic/testing method

The illuminance of the surface shall be measured in luminance (Lux) by using spectroradiometer, luminance meter or a chroma meter. Meanwhile, it can also be quantified in candles/square meter (cd/m²).

 

  • Good practices

Machine room should be equipped with electric lighting with minimum illuminance of 200 Lux at floor level. Switched socket-outlets shall also be provided (SS550).

 

  • Corrections

Adequate lighting shall be provided in the elevator machine room to allow the workers to conduct maintenance works safely and efficiently.
