Façade

Introduction

Façades can be traditional (masonry) or modern (cladding, prefabrication, curtain wall etc) to fulfil the requirement of aesthetics, energy performance and space. The primary function of facade is to protect the occupants from weather elements. Water penetration through jointing, pores or voids of the wall material causes most of all wall defects. Apart from this, flexibility in partial repair/replacement, other factors such as accessibility and availability of products are also considered for assigning scores. Various types of wall systems are considered and graded separately since they differ greatly.
