MEP Systems

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (MEP systems) are any building services that use machines to ensure that buildings operate well, and that promote occupant health, comfort and productivity. MEP systems contribute to the building’s sustainability and energy demand, which significantly affect the building’s cost. The MEP systems in this chapter refers to the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, plumbing and sanitary systems, electrical systems, fire protection systems and mechanical transportation systems (e.g. elevators, escalators and moving walkways). How well the building is designed with maintenance considerations will significantly impact the building’s performance. Faulty design of MEP services can be accounted to the lack of consideration for the design for access, equipment availability and maintenance requirements. Designing MEP systems entails understanding the surrounding environment and probing for a simple and effective approach. where the resulting system is the best fit for the building, and the causes of failure can be easily detected and quickly repaired.
