Abrasive wear can reduce the strength of the suspension ropes. Notches on the outer wires of the strands is one of the signs that the ropes are experiencing abrasive wear.

This condition will be resulting in the reduction of the strength of the suspension ropes, where rope diameter has reduced due to breakage of individual wires in the strength.
