Scratch marks, dented on surface of elevator door and jamb

  • Causes

Scratch and dented marks on the surface of the lift door might be cause by vandalism or rough movement of equipment brought by the passengers.

  • Diagnostic/testing method

The elevator car and the landing doors shall be tested to withstand an impact that is alike the impact when a person collide with the door at running speed (EN81-20:2014).

 

  • Good practices

The lift doors and their guides, shoes or tracks should not show a permanent deformation and elastic deformation not greater than 15 mm when subjected to a force of 300 N, applied on an area of 5 cm² at right angles and approximately at the centre of every door panel (SS550).

 

  • Corrections

It is recommended to use metal for the doors and their frames for more durable materials (SS550). For elevators that installed in a scarcely attended public areas such as public housing, urban infrastructures, and social houses, it is recommended to use a vandal resistant certification elevators complying EN81-71 standards.
