Gap between landing door and elevator car is too wide

  • Causes

The gap between the outside landing floor and the elevator car shall not exceed the permissible value, to prevent trip hazard especially to the wheelchair user or mobility assistance device from falling into the gap.

  • Diagnostic/testing method

The measurement shall be conducted at the back of recesses.

  • Good practices

When doors are closed, the clearance between panels, or between panels and uprights, lintels or sills, shall not exceed 6 mm. This value may reach 10 mm due to wear and tear.

For gaps between elevator car door and landing door, the clearance between car-platform sill and the hoistway edge of any landing sill shall not be less than 13mm, but not more than 40mm (SS550).

  • Corrections

In the case where the main guiding elements of the door do not operate as intended, the doors must include bottom safety retainers to keep the door panels in place (EN81-20:2014).
