Outdoor Open Spaces

Unsafe Outdoor Ramp

Inaccessible Drop Off Area

Insufficient Outdoor Lighting

Damaged Outdoor Surface (Slip and Fall)

Outdoor open space facilities (e.g. accessible pathways, parks and communal areas, bus stops, ramps and stairs) should consider space interconnectivity and building interface. The defects in these areas that have been identified in this chapter, centre around issues with universal design, drop off points, outdoor lighting, and incidents of users slipping and falling. The convenience and safety of drivers and their passengers in accessing a building, as well as the designs of children play areas are critical issues that must be considered in the design, construction and maintenance of a building. This is to ensure that the needs of the public, of all ages and abilities, are catered to, and that a safe environment is provided.
