Swimming pools have become popular venues for relaxation, recreation and social interaction. Their inclusion to a home or estate also adds an appealing feature and increase the value the property [1]. Building and maintaining a pool entails high costs to keep it safe, sanitised and well-kept. Pool water is commonly treated with chlorine to control algae growth and facilitate cleansing [2, 3]. The identified defects pertain to incidents of users slipping and falling, access and egress, building materials, water quality issues and the occurrence of sharp edges due to breakage of tiles. Proper design of and quality workmanship on pools will provide a safer environment for all users. The effective management of health and safety in any swimming pool starts with careful design. Regular and correct maintenance will help eliminate potential hazards [2, 3].
