Probable causes for the defect

Fowl smell
  • Poor ventilation – vent pipe and means of forced ventilation such as exhaust fans not provided.
  • Waterless appliances are not maintained well – cartridge of urinal or moisture level in waterless closets.
  • Irregular cleaning – Poor housekeeping practices or cleaning is not regular is there is unsafe working condition, poor accessibility etc.

Incomplete discharge
  • Wear and tear of the isolating and air release valves of air release pipe or two way valve of diverter tank.

Water ponding / leakage

Ponding due to sump pump leakage

  • Water seepage through pit cover – not properly fixed / stolen. Pit location may also affect.
  • Sump pump failed to dewater.
  • Severe corrosion of tank body.
