Introduction

Algae growth

Type of Building: Commercial

Roof is a favourite spot for biological growth like mold and algae. Weathering and these growths cause billions of dollars in surface damage to roofs each year. The presence of dirt, fungus, algae, mold and mildew on a roof’s surface can lead to color change, embrittlement and oxidation.

Once the integrity of the roof is compromised the surface is then vulnerable to environmental and biological attack, requiring cleaning or replacement to fix the problem. In this case, Algae stains marks were observed along the side of the beam. There is a water tank (red part) which sit on the beam.
