Green Building Technologies

Being an element with the largest exposed surface area to the external environment, significant sustainable design considerations for a façade include energy and water efficiency, as well as environmental protection. Popular green technologies used on façades include building integrated photovoltaics/photovoltaic cells (BIPV/PV), vertical greenery systems (VGS), LED media walls and nano-facade coatings (TiO₂). While green roof/ sky garden is another green building feature included in this section.

The Green Facade Maintainability Assessor is a stakeholder-based Green Maintainability tool that predicts the sustainability and maintainability performance of high-rise green facade technologies (i.e. green walls, nano facade coatings and building integrated photovoltaic) right at the design and planning stage.
