Fading
Introduction
Faded paint is observed as the discolouration of paint. This often manifests in a loss of colour or a change in shade of colour in the paint. Causes of this include outdoor weathering such as UV exposure from the sun, moisture from rain or lack of weather resistant additives This is commonly attributed to the change of chemical structure within the paint component (i.e. pigment) when interacting with UV light causing a loss of colour. Alternatively some paints have interactions with with the air in the area causing effects such as oxidation which results in a loss of colour as well.
