Flaking and Peeling
Introduction
Flaking and peeling is observed as the separation of the paint film from the substrate. Common reasons for this include poor adhesion between the paint and the substrate or the presence of excessive moisture. Flaking causes unsightly patches of exposed substrate, additionally the exposed substrate is vulnerable to external conditions such as moisture. This is common in areas of high humidity such as bathrooms and kitchens. Alternatively, it can also be attributed to poor preparation of the substrate, aging or simply incorrect use of primer and paint types.
