Case 1
Damaged Geotextile Layer
Introduction
Geotextiles mainly fulfill the role of soil separation, filtration, drainage and reinforcement. Geotextiles exist in a variety of types. Namely woven fabric, non-woven and knitted geotextile (Rahman, 2010). As observed in the image, the geotextile layer was damaged due to the inappropriate estimation of vertical greenery system’s weight.
Possible cause of damage
- Unsuitable design of supporting structure
Preventive Measure
When selecting geotextile fabric layers, take into account the need for permeability, drainage as well as strength.
Corrective Measure
Corrective measures involve removing the damaged layering and replacing them with new layers after reevaluating the requirements of the new layer.
