Staining on Glass

Introduction

The images depict staining on the glass due to outdoor elemental exposure. It is due to lack of cleaning as well as rain and wind combined with dirt drying on the glass surface leaving behind unsightly stains. The stains may also be caused by residue containing Calcium Carbonate this results in something known as hard water staining. Alternatively, staining can be caused by fumes caused by sources such as cooking.

Preventive Measure

Positioning of windows as well as consideration of potential water run-off areas (i.e. shading devices) in the design phase. Water staining and its impact can be thoroughly mitigated if water does not have an opportunity to run off in the first place. Routine cleaning also helps to ensure that any stains be removed pre-emptively before they become noticeably unsightly.

Corrective Measures

Staining can be minimized with routine cleaning of glass panels. For alkali mineral deposits such as Calcium Carbonate, it is recommended that cleaning be done with acidic cleaners which help to break down the alkali Calcium Carbonate. This should be coupled with scrubbing using the appropriate cleaning tool for an clean.
