Granite comes in a large variety of colours. The mineral constituents are subjected to hydrothermal or weathering. The result is a generic stone that ranges across a spectrum of base colour of black, through browns and pinks to yellow and white. Compared to marble, it offers more regularity in colour tone and texture. Its unique speckled and crystalline appearance distinguishes granite from other natural stone. Granite is very durable, and is also more suited for exterior application as compared to marble. However, it is popularly used in the interior wet areas as well.
