Grading for construction of slope in floor

Factors Grading criteria Grade
Slab casting
  • Quality control as per CONQUAS specification (Details in Section C.1) for proper pouring, curing compaction. It helps to avoid porosity, shrinkage cracks etc.
  • All penetrations and movement joints details should be dealt accordingly.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Embedding of services The pipes to be embedded in the screed should be checked for proper layout and jointing, else it affects durability of wet area. Yes: 5
No: 1
Laying the slope
  • Concrete floors are air-dried for minimum 4 weeks after curing
  • Slope is maintained using series of spot levels.
  • At least 1 week of air-drying for every 10mm thickness.
Yes: 5
No: 1

Grading for installation of waterproofing

Factors Grading criteria Grade
Substrate condition
  • Evenness: surface should be flat, even, clean, but with fine roughness for a good adhesion. Fins, protrusions, pegs should be removed and any visible defects such as cracks or flakes should be rectified. For brick walls, flash pointing of mortar joints is recommended. Sharp corners should receive sand/ cement fillets.
  • Cleanliness: dirt, loose unsound material, formwork release agent (oil, wax, grease, silicone etc) prevent proper bonding. They should be cleaned thoroughly with chemical, water or mechanical means.
  • Dryness: surface should be dried by natural ventilation or mechanical blower such that moisture content is reduced to <6%.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Quality of material
  • Shelf life of the material should not be expired during application.
  • Material should be freshly prepared or taken from a sealed container.
  • The preparation should be strictly under controlled condition.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Application
  • Manufacturer’s instruction to be followed to select tools and method of application to ensure even thickness and proper adhesion.
  • At critical points as pipe penetration or corners, brush is more suitable. For uniformity at upturns a roller as wide as the upturn height is recommended.
  • Application should start from the corner diagonal to the entrance and upturns at wall floor junctions, to avoid stepping on applied area.
  • Curing time should be strictly maintained
Yes: 5
No: 1
Inspection and testing
  • Thickness check: dry film thickness (DFT) with wet-mil gauge such that an additional coat can be applied to rectify below gage film thickness.
  • Checking adhesion by pull off test.
  • Water tightness test for floor: ponding with 25mm of water for 24 hours. Next the ceiling below is inspected for leakage.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Protection Once installed the membrane should be protected from damage due to foot traffic and cordoned off with an appropriate notice. Yes: 5
No: 1

Grading for installation of finishes (tiles)

Factor Grading criteria Grade
Tiled surface
Base : screed & substrate
  • Application on wall is same as façade. The substrate should be cured,
  • Floor screed: 50mm uniform thickness. Use level packs.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Preparation of tiles
  • Same as façade.
Yes: 5

Tiling
  • Same as façade
Yes: 5
No: 1
Grouting
  • Same as façade.
  • For floors, uniform spread of grout should be done with special care.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Inspection & checking Checked as per the guideline of CONQUAS 21:

  • The consistency in size, thickness of skirting, pointing.
  • Alignment of joint.
  • Evenness, cleanliness and colour tone of surface.
  • Any sign of chipping, cracking, and hollowness.
Yes: 5
No: 1
Protection
  • Covered immediately with polythene sheets, cardboards or wooden boards to protect the surface from foot traffic, abrasion, and impact. The protective material should be water resistant and would not produce stain.
  • Flooring: no foot traffic for 4 days and no heavy traffic for next 10days.
  • No loading /vibration from other construction activities unless fully cured.
  • Removal of dirt/ dust/ plaster/ paint dropping from subsequent activities.
Yes: 5

Grading for construction of fixture and fittings

Factor Grading criteria Grade
Installation Installed as per manufacturer’s instruction or as specified by codes.

  • Safely and securely fixed to the structure, using fixings and techniques recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Connection of waste water discharge pipe and tested as per specification.
  • Care should be taken so that water proofing membrane is not damaged.
5
Violation of codes or careless installation. E.g. seepage at the junction of discharge pipe and gully pipe through the porous infill if either of the pipes are wrongly installed or ‘short’ and thus leaving a gap at the junction.
