The SIROWET test utilises a pressure chamber that is fitted to the external face of the test sample and sealed at its perimeter against air and water penetration. A reversible air pump fitted with suitable controls is used to pressurise the chamber when positive loadings are required and depressurise the chamber for suction loadings. Water sprays are fitted to the inside of the chamber so that when the sprays are in operation, the external face of the test sample is completely covered with water. (Figure 1)
