Electromagnetic Cover Measurement / Profometer / Rebar Scanner

Test Procedures

1. Locating rebars with the spot Probe

  • Hold the probe in the air. If “0”does not appear automatically, press the key.
  • Place probe on concrete surface and move it slowly. As long as a flashing “+”sign is displayed, the probe is approaching a rebar.
  • If the cross wires of the probe have passed slightly the rebar axis, this is indicated acoustically by a short “Beep” and visually by display “-888”.
  • If the rebar axis has to be located very accurately and marked on the concrete surface, proceed as follow:
    • Pass the probe slowly over the rebar from one side. Mark the position of the cross wires when the “Beep” sounds.
    • Do the same from the opposite side at the same speed.
    • The rebar axis is between the two marks.
    • Current value: Distance from surface of reinforcement
    • Flowbar: Movement of flowbar indicates approach to metal
    • Signal Value: Measurement of distance from probe to metal
  • Whether a rebar can be located depends upon the concrete cover (s) bar diameter (d) and rebar spaces (a). Figure 2 illustrates these relationships for the spot probe and the depth probe, which is available as an accessory.

2. Measuring Concrete Cover

  • Hold the probe in the air. If “0”does not appear automatically, press the key.
  • Set the rebar diameter on the switch.
  • Place probe over rebar and read off concrete cover. Repeat point (1) from time to time. If “0”is displayed, the cover is more than the measuring range.

3. Diameter Measurement

  • Rebars diameter can be measured non-destructively using the diameter probe.
  • Locate rebar axis.
  • Connect the diameter probe and wait till “d” is shown
  • Hold the probe in measuring position in the air and press the key shortly and wait till :0: is displayed
  • Place the probe over the marked rebar axis immediately. Press the key. After a few seconds, the rebar diameter is displayed digitally in mm or inches.
