- The main advantages of this testing are that it can be employed for assessing the quality of concrete in structures and there are no restrictions concerning the shape of the concrete mass although access to the structure from both sides is desirable.

- Inexpensive to use and there is zero maintenance expenditure.
- Owing to its flexibility, apart from estimating strength, it can also be used to determine:
- the homogeneity of the concrete,
- the presence of voids (cracks or other imperfections),
- changes in concrete which may occur with time (due to the cement hydration) or through the action of fire, frost or chemical attack.
