Leaking evelavtor pit
- Diagnostic/testing method
Before installation of elevator equipment, the pits shall be tested for waterproofing using tanking, membranes or other positive means and shall have a covered sump (SS:550).
- Good practices
The pit areas should be remained dry at all times and if there is a presence of water, the source of water must be identified and eliminated. The sump cover shall be a non-slip type and durable, and it may be connected into an open-ended drain below sump level to avoid flooding. If there is a case where pump is required, it need to be installed outside the hoistway (SS550).
- Corrections
High pressure grout injection shall be used to stop the water intrusion around the perimeter of the pit. The walls, floors and metal components then shall be painted with prime coat to provide waterproofing for the elevator pits.
