Rectangular Buildings
- Buildings of rectangular shape are relatively easy for access, provided that the roof top is of no obstruction.
- Gondola system can be designed and accommodated without much difficulties.
- For rectangular buildings with spacious roof, they can employ the use of trolley units.
- The trolley units are sufficient to coverall facades due to the simplicity of the shape.
- Figure 2 shows a sample of how the track/rail can be laid for both track based (Left) and trackless system (Right).
- If the roof of the building is overcrowded, it is impossible to install the tracks or rails on the roof slab.
- The designer may consider using the traveling davits system whereby the rails are installed on the parapet wall.
- This must be decided at the design stage as the parapet wall needs to be substantially strong to withstand the loads.
South Point
South Point is clad with glazed curtain wall set in between five concrete columns.
Maintenance and cleaning of the façade is facilitated with a trolley unit guided by a simple railing known as trackless system.
The layout of the roof top is very well planned and is free of obstruction.
It does not pose problems for accommodating the BMU on the roof and the laying of guiding rail.
The wheels under the BMU enable the BMU to travel along the guiding rail smoothly.
During cleaning, the BMU is first positioned and the cradle is then lowered.
