Cracking Due To Stress At Openings

Minor openings will produce local concentrations of stress. Cracking and differential movement will occur here because of the weakness in the structure.
In this case, the crack is along the junction of windows and the external wall. Proper construction and installation of the window is necessary as this is the junction where there is a lot of stress created as a result of the change in materials as well as its weak interface (Figure 1a to 1b).
