Case 1 – Flash Flood

Navigation

Introduction

Type of Building: Residential

The picture illustrates water ponding on a concrete basement floor of a residential car park. Rainwater gushed into the basement from the ground surface level where the drainage system was momentarily saturated by heavy downpour.

Cracklines are also observed along the joint between the kerb and floor, as well as on the surface of the kerb. This may possibly be the result of being in contact with water for a long period of time.

Dark patches of fungi and subsequently mould growth were observed on the interception of kerb and floor as well as on the floor and kerb, following the flash flood.
