In this case, water leakage is found through a construction joint in the basement floor. Unlike other components of a building structure, the basement is often subjected to a permanent head of hydrostatic pressure caused by the ground water exerting directly onto the walls and floors. Compact and homogenous concrete mix have a high resistance against water penetration under these situations. However, joints are always weak points of any structure in terms of water-tightness. When water pressure builds up against the concrete structure, these joints may become relief points for water leakage. Therefore, these joints are vulnerable locations for leakages.
