  • Causes

Overheating of light bulbs, poor installation workmanship

  • Description of defect

Burned out bulb signifying inadequate ventilation for the light fixtures. The problem shows that the bulb experienced overheating, especially when it is enclosed or recessed. Hence, the ventilation ports inside the casing need to be inspected, ensuring the ports are not clogged by dust or debris.

  • Good practices

A lift car shall be provided with a minimum of two light fittings. The car shall be illuminated with at least 50 lux at floor level and on control devices (SS550).

EN81-20:2014 required the car interior shall provide an illumination intensity of 100 lux, and emergency in-car lighting of 5 lux for one hour.

 

  • Corrections

Use of LED lighting will provide a long service life and reduce the frequency of lighting replacement. Besides, it also far energy saving as compared to a conventional incandescent and fluorescent bulb.

Bulbs Flickering

  • Causes
  1. Poor installation workmanship
  • Description of defect

The light bulb that are screwed in too tightly into the light fixtures, causing the flexible brass tab located in the light fixtures to flattened. Typically, the tab should be slightly raised, a quarter inch from the bottom of the socket.

The bulb will be not properly connected to the tab, thus causing an electrical arc that can severely decrease the light bulb’s lifespan.
