- Arrest the moisture source if any.
- Scrape off as much paint as possible from the wall using stainless steel brush (Figure 1) [3];
- Then wash the powdery surfaces with 5% solution of muriatic acid or undiluted vinegar.
- Rinse thoroughly and allows complete drying to take place.
- When it is dry, repaint the entire surface with substrate of not more than 6% moisture content.
- Priming or sealing the surface with appropriate primer or sealer can further prevent water seepage and stabilize the surface (Figure 2) [3]
