When conduits and pipes are to be concealed beneath the wall, provisions should be made in the wall for the laying of such ducts. Voids large enough for the conduit should be left in the backing wall during construction of the wall.

Alternatively, the conduit be placed before the casting of the concrete such that the conduits will be embedded in the concrete instead of fixed to the bare concrete surface. The conduits can also be left exposed on the wall.

This will ensure that the thickness of plaster applied across the conduit is similar to that applied across the general face of the wall. The occurrence of plaster cracking along such areas will thus be minimised. See Figure below.
