Cause of Defects

Underestimate of the flow rate and hence under sizing of rainwater goods. There would be a build-up of an excessive head of water at the outlet. This leads to inadequate drainage into the system and ponding occurs.

Insufficient outlets to cater for the rate of flow. Thus when the outlets are unable to handle a large volume of water, there is no other outlet to drain out the water which leads to ponding of roof (Figure 1). The falls along the roof may be insufficient to drain away the water. This would lead to a slow flow of water to the outlets and if the volume of water is not large, ponding could occur.
