Case 5

Remedial

Unless ridging is likely to be damaged by foot traffic, it is best left alone

Patch repair to minor ridges may be successful, e.g. to restretch the membrane.

For major ridge, remove any solar reflective finish from affected area

Cut back felt over the ridge, thoroughly dry base and edges of existing felt either side

Apply layer of high performance felt with first layer bonded to base at the edges only and the top layer continuously bonded over the first layer and the edges of existing felt

This failure is generally due to insufficient stretching of the membrane. The only long term remedial treatment is to strip off the membrane and to relay the deck so that only minimum flexing occurs. The procedure is to first strip off the existing damaged membrane. Clean the surfaces free of loose particles.
