Waterponding

Introduction

Type of Building: Residential

Ceramic tiled floor in a wet area of residential building is shown in the picture. The water is collected at the corner of the floor just below the water tap. The surface is observed uneven and not properly sloped towards the floor trap which is located at the other corner of the wet area. The area subjected to water ponding has been badly stained. White efflorescence has spread widely all over the area.

To obtain a good finish, proper tiling construction practices should be followed. Good planning, workmanship, supervision and protection are important during construction to produce neat and even surface. In addition, proper layout of plumbing and fitting should be important to design well organized wet areas that could bring minimum problems like in this case.
