Adhesion failure
- Inadequate provision of expansion or control joint
- Incompatible stone and bedding material
- Concrete or cement/ sand screed not properly cured and drying shrinkage cracks occur after stone installation
- Substrate not properly cleaned & prepared.
- Contamination of the back of stone tiles by dust and dirt deposited.
- Incorrect installation of stone tiles. E.g. insufficient tapping of tiles into position or tiles were applied onto adhesive layer after the “open time” lapsed.

Hollowness
- Air entrapped or void in either setting bed or slab, causing one part of the floor to sound differently than another.
- Separation or waterproofing membranes installed between a slab and bedding material

Efflorescent
- Salts within stone and/ or bedding material
- Moisture getting into adhesive from under the floor or through tile joints

Temporarily, can be cleaned using a proprietary tile cleaner, but the problem will be occur again.
Always check the compatibility of cleaning agent with the tile material. |
