Rainwater may seep from the exterior into the interior of a building through the facade via the wall material, joints, and interfaces. Facade plays an important role as an interface between outdoor and indoor, among them are control of dampness.

For this case, the external wall is a barrier wall, rainwater penetrated through the joint between the concrete kerb and slab. Waterproofing at the joints had deteriorated and was not able to resist strong wind driven rain.
