Peeling can be referred to as the splitting of a dry paint film through at least one coat as a result of aging, which ultimately would lead to complete failure of the paint. In its early stages, the problem appears as blistering, followed by hairline cracks; in its later stages, peeling and flaking occurs.
Blistering is usually known as the first stage in the development of peeling and flaking. Blistering is almost always caused by moisture, either water vapour or actual moisture, drawn through the substrate to the paint interface.
