Mould Growth on Basement Ceiling
Type of Building: Carpark
Moulds have grown on the basement ceiling of a carpark . The ceiling is a damp/moist biodegradable finishing material. There are a variety of moulds which can grow in hot and moist environment and some of them are harmful. Moisture content is the significant factor in determining the extent of mould growth. Mould is likely to manifest at places where there is long-term moisture retention.
In this case, water seepage into the cellulosic ceiling boards from planters above could be the reason for long-term moisture retention supporting the mould growth, together with little ventilation, inside the car park. The presence of moisture creates a conducive environment for mould growth.
