Introduction
Type of Building: Residential
Leakage through the wall of a basement room has been identified in this case. This room is enclosed and air-conditioned and is used as a painting room. It is located below a swimming pool. Ventilation of the compartment is also low. Fungal growth and crazing are also observed along the wall. Moisture from the soil is believed to be the cause of dampness on the wall in this case. Moisture conditions in the soil around a basement wall can vary from saturated to dry, depending on the:
- soil type,
- topography,
- height of the groundwater table,
- climate,
- season of the year.
This problem is particularly common for cases where waterproofing cannot be done on the outside (positive-side waterproofing).
