Introduction
Ledges
Type of Building: Commercial Building
While a facade is generally flat, there are sometimes stretches of horizontal surfaces that allow dirt particles of all sizes to be retained easily and runoff to flow over. These horizontal surfaces are either protruding from or recessed into the facade and they can range from a few metres to several metres in length. Such surfaces would be known as ledges.
Ledges can be found on parapet walls, recessed windows and voids.
