Good Practices
Rust spots are commonly observed in lighter coloured granites due to the colour contrast. Granite like Imperial White will sometimes show significant spots while the same spots may be perfectly camouflaged in Black Galaxy, a black coloured stone.
Often, when a granite quarry contains a significant amount of iron in its mineral, the stone will possess its own unique identity, and an example would be Kashmir White, an Indian granite which got its name from the pattern of rust in its mineral, and is particularly popular in Asia. It is thus important to have a good understanding of the properties of stones and select them carefully according to their intended functions.
Sealers for stones should be applied to prevent water or stains from being retained in the pores of the stones. Sealers should have the following properties:
- virtually odourless
- non yellowing
- deep penetrating protection
- weather resistant
- maximum stain resistance.
