Maintenance and Diagnostics

Do not use acid-based cleaners (below pH 7), high alkaline (above pH 9) cleaners or strong degreasers for maintenance.

It is also recommended to reapply sealers to stones every 2-5 years to ensure continued performance of granite cladding.

Diagnostics of Defect

  1. Visual inspection can identify such kinds of defects.
  2. Petrography to investigate the microstructure of the stone.
  3. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM): determines the surface characteristics of stones.
  4. Thermography can be used to determine presence and source of water that contribute to the rust. It can also indicate the presence of cracks, if any.
