Cause of Defects
The horizontal stretching crack maybe due to plastic settlement crack occurred a few hours after the casting of the beam. The crack in the concrete has resulted in the formation of the crack in the plastering (Figure 1a to c).
The active diagonal crack maybe due to the crack subjected to shear forces hence resulting in shear crack occurring diagonally across the edge of the beam (Figure 2).
The crack has resulted in efflorescence and staining on the plastering surface.
