Good Practices

Copings are the protective top members of any vertical construction, such as the parapet wall. A coping can be of concrete, metal or wood, and is usually sloping or beveled to shed water in such a way that it does not run down the vertical face of the wall. The slope is constructed to a minimum fall of 1:12 so that water will be shed off effectively. Concrete Coping often projects out from a wall with a drip groove on the underside. The groove should have a minimum diameter of 12mm to prevent any capillary action. Damp Proof course (DPC) are placed under the copings which provide further reinforcement to the waterproofing.
