Case 4

Remedial

This failure is generally due to overstressing of the membrane due to excessive traffic movement on the roof. The only long term remedial treatment is to strip off the membrane and to relay the deck so that only minimum flexing occurs.

The procedure is to first strip off the existing damaged membrane. Clean the surfaces free of loose particles.

Lay a new layer of waterproofing screed. Have a slope of at least 1 in 100 for effective drainage. Screed should be left to harden for at least 12 hours. Thereafter, reinstall the new membrane.

Fill any areas around pipes with non-shrink grout. Apply a good quality waterproofing membrane and upturn at least 150mm depending on volume of water expected. The membrane should be allowed to set for 6-12 hours.
