Introduction

Type of Building: Public

In this case, algae was found on one of the ceiling boards in a public building. Algae are biological agents that thrive mainly when moisture and light present.

The plastic drainage pipe was found to be leaking at the pipe joint and water constantly drips onto the porous ceiling board which has been damped. Proper installation of method should be followed to fix pipes in order to provide durable and water-tight joints.

This ample supply of moisture under this circumstance provides an excellent platform to grow anaerobic bacteria over the ceiling board which is identified as Asbestos sheet. Asbestos in generally has heat resistant characteristics. Because of these characteristics, asbestos has been used in building industry for a wide range elements including roofing shingles, ceiling and floor tiles, paper products, and asbestos cement products.
